Kalpaki can be easily considered as crossroads since it is located on the junction of the four historic roads of Konitsa, Zagori, Pogoni and Kakavia. A notorious year which characterizes Kalpaki is 1940 therefore the prominent name of our guesthouse. On the 28th of October, 1940 Greece rejects the Italian ultimatum to allow their troops to cross the border into Greece resulting in the involvement of Greece in WWII. Italians invade Greece; however the vigorous resistance at Kalpaki and Pindos intercepted the Italian troops before they could reach Ioannina. This significant for the Greeks date commemorates the anniversary of the Greek population taking to the streets shouting “Ohi!” “No”. It is a day that represents bravery, solidarity and heroism.
